French tutor Paris - Experience the 18th arrondissement and live like a local
It's true that when we think of the 18th arrondissement, the first thing that comes to mind is Montmartre, the sacred heart... this charming neighborhood so magnificent, so special (in fact it's my neighborhood favorite in Paris)
However, this district is full of other very interesting and authentic places too.
1. the village of Ramey
Obviously it's less known but it's a place to escape the tourists and enjoy the terraces, local restaurants, small boutiques, local art studios, vintage shops, pretty florists. By visiting this street (Rue Ramey) you will find lots of super nice spots to enjoy over a coffee or a glass of wine.
2. le quartier de Château rouge
it's the African quarter of the city.
by going to this neighborhood, you will travel. the smells, the spices, the languages, the markets, the shops, the barber shop... these small streets are full of treasures that come from Africa. You will obviously find restaurants there but also traditional WAX fabric shops.
In short, if you are not afraid of the noise, the crowds, go for it!
3. La Goutte d’Or
This district not far from Château Rouge is the district where you will find the most cultures from all over the world.
It's a mix of African, Middle East and French influence.
For example, on rue Dejean you can find what you are looking for to cook with flavors.
You can also visit the Institute of Islamic Cultures or from time to time you can go to different art exhibitions... Urban culture is also very present in this district.
4. Jules Joffrin
My neighborhood where I live and where I meet my students to work on their French lessons.
It's a very cute neighborhood with lots of bars, restaurants... Rue du Poteau is the main street for doing your shopping. It is also the district where the 18th century town hall is located.
5. The secret streets of Montmartre
Certainly the most famous streets are very beautiful but also very frequented by tourists.... you can discover other streets that are much quieter and not far from Montmartre... For example rue Lepic or rue de L' watering hole of less busy streets that are just as pretty.
6. Go for a walk at Hasard Ludique
This place is a café / cultural space which has been installed next to the rails of the inner suburbs of Paris. you have to follow the programming to attend their concerts and creative workshops.
There are also Christmas markets, markets to promote small traders... There is also food and drink to enjoy the place.
7. Les puces de Saint Ouen = Famous Flea Market in Paris 18th
This market is one of the biggest and oldest flea markets in the works.
You will find antiques, vintage, furniture, pictures, clothes, Jewelry…
I love walking in these streets, super calm and relaxing… Be careful, it’s only open weekends and monday.
